With Hands of Joy

The club makes an annual donation to support the activities of a former club member, Lou Ann Young at the Riversands school in South Africa (since 1992).

Children's Book Week

Our club purchases posters and bookmarks for the eight libraries in Vaughan, in support of this annual event.

The club currently supports scholarships to a female Vaughan high school  graduate from each of the school systems in York Region.

Battle of the Books

One of our educational projects is the sponsorship of a Battle of the Books. This reading program for students in grades 4 to 6 culminates in an event in the spring of each year where the students participate in a "Battle", answering questions based on the 25 books which have been selected by a committee of teacher-librarians, public librarians, and a representative of CFUW Vaughan. Points are awarded based on the number of clues required to answer the questions correctly.

Our club provides the refreshments, medals, ribbons and book prizes for the students. This project was initiated by club members and has been part of the club's work for many years. Seeing the enthusiasm of the students and their parents on the day of the event is great fun!
